Carnival is a traditional celebration of pagan origin, which takes place immediately before the Christian Lent, dated variable (between February and March depending on the year) and combining some elements such as costumes, parades and street parties. Their common characteristic is to be a period of permissiveness and some slippage.
This year 2016 will take place between Saturday 6 and Wednesday 10 February (when the traditional “burial of the sardine” that ends the celebrations being held), although some locations (such as La Bañeza) begin already on Friday, 5 and continue through the following weekend (Saturday 13).
